REPORTING ON DIVESTMENT: SA’S FIRST FOSSIL FUEL DIVESTMENT SURVEY
We’re releasing our first ever survey of SA institutions trying to divest from fossil fuels: read it here.
Over the past year, we’ve surveyed the various institutions in South Africa that have attempted, painstakingly, to begin some form of fossil fuel divestment. We’ve now compiled the results of that survey into a very brief five-page report.
REPORTING ON DIVESTMENT
SA’s first fossil fuel divestment survey
Since 2016, several South African institutions have made public commitments to divestments from fossil fuels. But fossil fuel divestment, particularly in South Africa, is not a simple or quick process.
We will in future be publishing occasional public status reports on divestment in SA, using the information provided here in combination with other publicly accessible reports and information.
We hope that reflecting honestly both on the obstacles to divestment and the progress that has been made so far can help other institutions; lead to greater collaboration and leadership inspiring a more ethical financial services sector in South Africa; and advance climate justice for all South Africans.
The global database of institutions that have divested or attempted to divest can be found here.
