Carbon captured?

Shocking international evidence showing how fossil fuel companies have been laundering their reputations and obstructing climate action using universities is mounting. Undisclosed funding and a variety of partnerships allow the coal, oil and gas industry to deny, delay and spread disinformation about climate action.

Our newest preliminary report about these partnerships that South African universities have with the fossil fuel industry – which is responsible for “the gravest human rights threat facing humanity”, in the words of the United Nations International Court of Justice.

Our goal is to inspire proactive steps in South Africa’s higher education sector, consideration of our recommendations, and further research into how to protect academic integrity so the Just Energy Transition Plan can be fully realised, truly just, and informed by science.
